RE’s unique ability to provide control and monitoring systems, for a wide range of applications, owes a lot to having a highly experienced design and manufacturing team. Most have been with the company for many years.
At a recent ceremony, to acknowledge key landmarks, the General Manager, Kevin Murray presented a number of awards. Pictured below he is presenting an engraved tankard to Peter Smith in recognition of 40 years; mostly spent manufacturing and wiring control systems. A function that he now supervises.

In 1987 Regulateurs Europa introduced the first digital electronic governor and named it Viking22. It soon found a role not just as a prime mover governor but as an integrated power management system in a wide range of applications.
Viking 22 was a market leader and, building on the experience of this ECU, Regulateurs Europa developed the more comprehensive and robust Viking25 that has formed the core of many engine governing and control systems up till now.
In line with RE’s policy of supporting and maintaining products in the field we have kept Viking22 parts and replacements available to users. Twenty two years ago we didn’t think that the suffix number to the Viking brand name would represent the time that the product would stay in production. As we all know, microprocessor equipment becomes obsolete very quickly and after 22 years we have reached the point where we can no longer guarantee supplies.
At Regulateurs Europa we are aware that end users need support and as Viking22 becomes obsolete so we are busy engineering solutions for retrofits based on the third generation product Viking35. This ECU has the capacity to cover Viking22 and Viking25 applications and will provide the same functionality, and more, compared to the existing ECU’s. The new units would not entail changing other equipment on the engine, ship or other application.

RE is proud to introduce a new product range that has wide implications for the future of their systems business.
The “Iceni” range of distributed I/O modules can be used to extend the RE Viking35 ECU or communicate with other PC or PLC equipment. The DIN rail mounted modules are designed to be cost effective and easy to configure, via a colour display keypad, without the need for a programmer. ”Iceni” is designed to encompass the high temperature of an engine environment but be equally suited to a much wider role or as a product for other OEMs.

Ship owners Ernst Jacob are one of the latest customers to place an order on RE for governor retrofits in ships of their fleet. In this case the Woodward 3161 governors, on their Wartsila 6L20 auxiliary engines are being replaced with the well proven RE1102L-4G units.

The Regulateurs Europa 1102 range, with its work output capability of up to 40 ft.lbf.is known, in the market, for its fast response to load changes, its stability at both idle and rated speeds and its robust construction. This governor has speed setting via a permanent magnet motor, and a start fuel limiter to prevent excessive smoke on start up.
The provision of a base adaptor, a compatible drive shaft and an output lever, as part of the package, means that the 1102 retrofit can take place without any significant mechanical or electrical changes on the engine; a factor that has influenced the customer to roll out this, first change on their “MT Andre Jacob,” to four other vessels in their fleet.
The SMM exhibition in Hamburg was even larger than before. RE was proud to have the opportunity to showcase its products on the Heinzmann Group stand. Newly on show this year was the RE 2800 series compact hydraulic actuator, and an example of a single engine control panel featuring the new Viking35 digital governor / engine management system.
The 2800 actuator not only adds to the range but it offers an attractive retrofit or replacement for other manufacturers popular governors and actuators.
Our General Manager, Kevin Murray, (seen below with Marc Heller of Heinzmann) was present during the week and he was impressed by the level of customer interest that was generated by the stand.
If you were unable to visit the exhibition, RE would be pleased to talk to you about new developments and existing products, to meet your specific needs.

Representatives from Regulateurs Europa were pleased to participate in the 2008 Heinzmann Group International Sales Conference, held in Freiberg Germany. This is the second major conference since RE joined the group. The get together of all the manufacturing units and the worldwide family of representatives and agents provides a valuable forum to discuss market conditions and to introduce newly developed products.
2008 will be an important year for Regulateurs Europa as it releases its new Viking 35 digital governing and power management unit and adds the compact 2800 actuator to the existing 2200 range.
Being part of the Heinzmann Group enables RE to offer customers an extended range of control solutions for diesel and turbine applications.
