Control System Replacement

The diesel-electric Long-liner CFL Hunter is powered by 4 x Yanmar 6EY18AWL generator sets. From origin, the engines were equipped with UG25+ electric hydraulic governors. Regulateurs Europa received the task from the vessels management to replace these governors with a more reliable and maintenance friendly solution.

All existing UG25+ governors were replaced by Regulateurs Europa’s DG 2800.14 Electro-Hydraulic Governor. For accurate speed measurement and control, an additional external speed pick-up was mounted on each engine flywheel.

Regulateurs Europa received the task from the vessels management to replace these governors with a more reliable and maintenance friendly solution.

The end user had previously experienced significant issues with the existing governors and due to the vessel’s operation in remote Arctic waters, a reliable and long-term solution was essential.

RE provided the DG2800.14 as the best solution. This model is fully interchangeable with the UG governor range, offering the significant advantage that no modifications to the existing governor drive are required.

All existing UG25+ governors were replaced by Regulateurs Europa’s DG 2800.14 Electro-Hydraulic Governor. An additional external speed pick-up was mounted on the engine flywheel to improve the accuracy of speed measurement and control.

Following installation and commissioning, we observed notably improved load response and stability. Start fuel limiter and ramp-up speed parameters were adjusted in such way that smoke was reduced significantly during start up of the engines.

Since then, no further issues have been reported, and the operator has provided positive feedback on the performance and reliability of the system.
